Altbau apartments in Mitte, Prenzlauer Berg, and Kreuzberg often have ceilings above three metres. A standard wardrobe leaves a metre of dead air on top. Floor-to-ceiling cabinetry designed to your actual ceiling height turns that air into storage, while keeping clearance from stucco and picture rails.
Hinterhof logistics
Many Altbau buildings have no lift, and the staircase or the courtyard entrance is the only way up. Flat-pack panels go where assembled furniture cannot. And because so much of Berlin rents, designs favour cabinetry that can be unscrewed, carried down, and rebuilt in the next apartment.
