IKEA Pax alternative Pre-launch

The Pax alternative, sized to your wall and it actually fits.

IKEA Pax wardrobes are clever, but they're 50 cm or 1 m wide and made of foil-wrapped particleboard. Your alcove is 1.37 m. Knuslabs is being built as the bespoke Pax alternative: exact-fit wardrobe concepts with provisional oak, birch, walnut, or lacquered finish directions. Design free today; production details follow later in 2026.

Why people leave Pax

The Pax problem isn't the design. It's the dimensions and the materials.

Pax is brilliant in theory. Modular, configurable, decent interior fittings, and a smart pricing model. Then you measure your alcove and find it's 1.37 m, not 1, not 1.5. You buy a Pax 1 m, lose 37 cm to a side filler that gathers dust. Or you buy 1.5 m and take the door off its hinges, and it sticks out into the room.

The other thing nobody mentions: Pax interiors are 16 mm particleboard with white foil. Hang a heavy winter coat collection on one side and the rail bows. Move flats and the foil chips. After ten years, the carcass is recyclable but the foil isn't.

A bespoke wardrobe sized to your exact alcove will cost more than Pax (around €2,400 vs €600 for a comparable 2 m run), but the value is the exact fit, saved design work, and a production plan you can review before ordering. The studio is free today; material and fulfillment details follow before launch.

Pax-style configurability, bespoke fit, production details to confirm.

Pax-replacement concepts

What a Pax replacement could look like, sized to your wall.

Six concepts the studio generates for the kind of awkward alcove and ceiling shapes Pax can't handle.

Concept render: oak wardrobe sized to a 1.37 m alcove with no filler
oak Concept
1.37 m × 2.40 m × 60 cm Indicative €2,600–€3,000

Replacement for Pax 1 m + 37 cm filler

The Pax setup with a filler panel that catches dust. The concept here is a full-width oak wardrobe, 1.37 m exact. Hinged doors, brass pulls.

Concept render: birch wardrobe replacing three Pax units
birch Concept
3.20 m × 2.54 m × 58 cm Indicative €3,200–€3,900

Replacement for three Pax 1 m units

A wall of three Pax replaced as a single 3.2 m birch-finish wardrobe with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors and a continuous shelf interior.

Concept render: walnut walk-in wardrobe
walnut Concept
2.20 m × 2.80 m × 60 cm Indicative €3,400–€4,000

Replacement under a 38° sloping eave

Sloping ceiling that forced a 50 cm Pax with the top cut off (badly). Concept: walnut with a stepped top that follows the eave exactly.

Concept render: floor-to-ceiling wardrobe in off-white lacquer
offwhite Concept
1.80 m × 2.20 m × 54 cm Indicative €2,100–€2,500

Mirror-front Pax replacement

When the Pax foil chips after a move. Concept: lacquered finish direction, mirror fronts on full-height pivots, and an oak-toned interior shelf.

Concept render: oak walk-in concept replacing four Pax units
oak Concept
2.40 m × 2.40 m × 60 cm Indicative €4,200–€4,900

Walk-in concept replacing four Pax

Four Pax in a U-shape acting as a walk-in. Concept: a single integrated walk-in in oak, with a central island drawer unit.

Concept render: narrow wardrobe with mirror-front doors
birch Concept
1.20 m × 2.40 m × 60 cm Indicative €1,400–€1,700

Single-bay replacement, the cheap option

Small-bedroom Pax 1 m swap. Same footprint, with birch and oak finish directions. Single hinged door, internal drawer tower. Lowest-price replacement concept.
