This is a draft of the terms that will govern orders once knuslabs starts shipping. A final, dated version will be published before any paid ordering goes live.

Legal · Terms (draft)

Terms of service.

The plain-English version of what we will promise, what we will expect, and what happens if something goes sideways. Drafted for the way knuslabs is designed to work once custom furniture moves from idea to your door.

Drafted 23 May 2026
Section 1

Who we are

knuslabs, a Dutch private limited company registered with the Kamer van Koophandel under number 91402736, with its registered office in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Our director is Ruud Niewenhuijse. When these terms say we, us, or knuslabs, that is us. You is the person using the site or, in future, placing an order.

These terms apply when you visit knuslabs.com, use the studio, or (once it is possible) order a piece of furniture from us. Use the site and you agree to them.

Section 2

What this covers, and what is still draft

Two things sit under these terms: using the knuslabs website (live today, including the design studio) and ordering custom furniture (not yet possible, in the works).

The sections about ordering, payment, manufacturing, shipping, assembly, returns, and warranty are forward-looking. They describe how we intend to operate once paid ordering goes live, and are published now so anyone can read along and flag concerns early. A final, dated version of these terms will be published before any sale. We will not take payment for furniture under draft terms.

The sections covering intellectual property, liability, governing law, and contact apply to your use of the site today.

Section 3

Ordering and quotes

Once ordering is live, every project will start with a brief: a photo of the room, dimensions, and a few sentences about what you want. From there, the studio generates design options you can iterate on. When the design is ready, we will issue a quote.

A quote will be an estimate, not a contract. It will be valid for fourteen days from the date we send it. Prices, materials, and lead time can change after that, and we will say so on a fresh quote.

A binding order will exist when you accept the quote in writing or in the studio and pay the deposit. Today, the studio itself is free and there is nothing binding about generating designs.

Section 4

Briefs and AI-generated designs

We use AI to turn your brief into design options. The AI is a tool. When we begin manufacturing, final responsibility for the design we make will rest with us, and if a generated option is not buildable in the materials you chose, or would not be safe, we will tell you and offer alternatives.

When you pick a design (today, that is the design you settle on in the studio; tomorrow, the one you place an order against), we will produce a renders pack and a bill of materials. Manufacturing only starts after you confirm that pack.

We may keep anonymised versions of designs you generate to show in our portfolio or social posts. If you would rather we did not, write to ruud@knuslabs.com and we will exclude your designs. No charge, no hassle.

Section 5

Payments and deposits

The plan for paid ordering is a 40% deposit to start work and the remaining 60% before we ship. Exact amounts and the payment flow will appear on the order page once it exists. None of this is in effect today; the studio is free while we are in early access.

Card payments will be handled by a regulated payment processor. We will never see or store your card number, only the brand and last four digits, so we can answer questions about a specific charge. Bank transfer will be available for larger orders.

If a deposit is not paid within seven days of a quote being accepted, we will treat the order as cancelled and free up the workshop slot.

Section 6

Manufacturing and lead times

The target lead time, once we start shipping, is four to six weeks from deposit to ship, depending on the materials and the size of the project. Your project page will show the actual scheduled ship date and update if anything moves.

If we slip by more than two weeks for reasons within our control (a missed supply, a workshop bottleneck, anything that is on us), you will be able to cancel and we will refund the deposit in full within fourteen days.

Manufacturing will not start until the deposit clears and you have confirmed the final renders pack. Once we have started cutting material, the order becomes custom-made and the cancellation rules below apply.

Section 7

Shipping and risk

We do not ship anything today. When shipping is live, the plan is to start from Amsterdam to addresses in the Netherlands and its immediate neighbours, then expand across the EU. Other destinations will be considered on request.

Risk will pass to you when the carrier hands the parcels to you or to someone at your address. Until then it will be on us. If something arrives damaged in transit, take a photo at delivery, refuse the parcel if the damage is severe, and email us. We will replace any damaged parts at our cost.

Shipping cost will be shown on the quote. We will disclose the carrier on every shipping confirmation, once we are using one.

Section 8

Assembly

Every piece will ship with cut, sanded, finished, and numbered parts and an assembly guide. The design target is no power tools: a screwdriver and a rubber mallet at most.

Assembly will be your responsibility. We do not plan to offer in-home assembly at launch, though we will help over email or video call if you get stuck. If a part does not fit because of a manufacturing error on our side, that is covered under the warranty.

Section 9

Returns and cancellations

Under Dutch consumer law you have a fourteen-day right of withdrawal for goods bought online. Custom-made furniture is an exception to that right once manufacturing has started; that is what the law allows for goods made to your specifications, and it is how we will keep custom work affordable.

In practice, once ordering is live, that will mean:

  • Before manufacturing starts, you can cancel for any reason and we refund the deposit in full within fourteen days.
  • After we have started cutting material, custom orders cannot be returned for a change of mind. Defects and warranty claims are still covered (see the next section).
  • For any non-custom items we end up selling, the standard fourteen-day return will apply. The piece must come back in its original condition. Return shipping will be on you.

No purchases happen on knuslabs today, so this section does not yet have anything to act on.

Section 10

Warranty and defects

The plan is a two-year structural warranty on every piece: joints, panels, and hardware. If something breaks under normal use within two years of delivery, we will repair or replace it at our cost. This will sit on top of, not instead of, your statutory rights to a non-defective product (conformiteit) under Dutch law.

We also intend to offer a thirty-day cosmetic check: if a finish is uneven, a panel is the wrong shade, or anything visual is not what was on the renders, tell us within thirty days of delivery and we make it right.

Wood moves. Slight changes in colour and grain over time, hairline checks in solid timber, and small seasonal gaps are part of how the material lives. They are not defects.

Section 11

Intellectual property

The studio software, the knuslabs name and brand, our methods, and our generative models are ours. The specific designs you generate are yours for personal use: keep them, save them, share them, commission them. You do not get the right to mass-produce a design, license it commercially, or pass it off as your own work for sale.

The brief, photos, and dimensions you send us stay yours. By sending them you give us a licence to use them to design and (once we are shipping) manufacture your piece, and to show anonymised versions in our portfolio unless you opt out under Section 4.

Section 12

Pricing and VAT

The studio is currently free to use while we are in early access. If pricing changes, we will say so before it affects existing saved designs.

Once paid ordering goes live, prices on the site and in quotes will be in euros and include 21% Dutch VAT for consumer orders within the EU. Business buyers in other EU countries with a valid VAT number can be invoiced under reverse-charge rules; ask before you place the order.

Customs and import duties for shipments outside the EU will be on the recipient. We will not pre-pay them.

Section 13

Force majeure

If something genuinely outside our control prevents us from delivering on time (a port strike that holds up walnut, a fire at a mill, a pandemic), we will tell you, give you a realistic new date, and let you cancel for a full refund of anything paid that has not yet been turned into your piece. We will not use force majeure as cover for things that are actually our fault.

Section 14

Liability

We are liable for direct damage caused by us failing to do what we said we would. Our total liability for any one order will be capped at the price of that order. We do not cover indirect or consequential losses: lost time, lost rent, missed photoshoots, and the like.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else where the law says liability cannot be limited.

Section 15

Governing law

These terms are governed by Dutch law. The courts of Amsterdam have exclusive jurisdiction, except where mandatory consumer protection rules give you the right to bring a claim where you live.

If you are an EU consumer and we cannot resolve a dispute by writing to each other, you can use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform: ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

Section 16

Contact

For anything (questions, complaints, things you noticed in this draft), write to ruud@knuslabs.com. A real human reads every message, usually Ruud, often within a working day.

For data protection requests specifically, also use ruud@knuslabs.com. The full route is described on our privacy page.

These draft terms were last edited 23 May 2026. We will note the date of any future change at the top of this page and email anyone with an open project if the change affects them.
